The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency
(TRACE), has tasked owners of heavy duty trucks on the need to strictly
adhere to the minimum safety standards to reduce high rate of accident
involving trucks in the state.
TRACE Commander/Chief Executive Officer, Cdr Olaseni
Ogunyemi, said the agency will continuing intensify efforts at enforcing
the road traffic laws.
He stated this through Ogun West Area Commander, Cdr
Adekunle Ajibade when Lagos Branch Executives of Allied trucks
transporters Association of Nigeria (ATTAN) paid a courtesy visit to
TRACE Ota Divisional Command.
Ajibade, while commending the major transport
leaderships for the visitation sought for their full partnership and
collaboration to proffer appropriate solutions to the menace of
accidents involving trucks, tippers, tankers and trailers on the roads.
Ajibade further stated that the TRACE boss has mandated
the agencies personnel to continue remain committed to initiating
measures that could lead to the attainment of safer road environment,
urging the stakeholders to see issues of road safety as a shared
responsibility.
He explained that all Commands with the instructions of
the state government has embarked on rigorous campaign against all odds
leading to road traffic crashes.
He advised the union executives to train and retrain
their drivers the habit of driving to stay alive and it is by obeying
all traffic rules and regulations, saying the agency have the capacity
to apply sanctions on the drivers and coerce them to comply with minimum
safety standards.
He warned drivers against overloading, excessive speed,
aggressiveness, wrong overtaking, route violation, drunk driving and
obstructing road with mechanical deficient vehicles, saying it is so
advisable for drivers to call for TRACE assistance especially on towing
whenever the need arises instead of parking indiscriminately on the
road.
Alhaji Abdul-Yekinni Usman who led the other executives
to the meeting applauded TRACE for their passion in making roads safe
for the users.
He said the meeting is aimed at strengthening existing
synergy and collaboration between the association and TRACE to reduce
carnage on roads.
The meeting will provide an opportunity to deliberate on
the rising cases of road crashes involving tankers, tippers and
trailers lack of lightning systems – headlights, brake, rear lights and
other mechanical components.
He however, commended the leadership of the Association
for being active in the search for solutions to the menace of truck
crashes on the nation’s highways
