Tinubu’s wife mobilises Ondo Monarchs on increased food production

 Oluremi Tinubu

Wife of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Senator Oluremi, has urged traditional rulers in Ondo state to mobilise their subjects to key into her Young Farmers’ Club and Women’s Gardening Initiative.

Senator Tinubu informed the traditional rulers that the programmes have received N400bn intervention fund from the Ministry of Agriculture.

She stated that each state’s First Lady received a grant of N68.9 million to support women farmers under the programme.

Senator Tinubu spoke when she met with the Ondo State Council of Obas during her two days visit to the state to flag off distribution of professional kits to Nurses and Midwives.

She also informed the traditional rulers about scholarship scheme for student and the Alternative High School for Girls, a programme tailored to provide both education and childcare support for teenage mothers through on-site crèches.

The First Lady said the programme would soon be launched in Ondo.

She appealed to the traditional rulers to support her campaign to end female genital mutilation, Hepatitis B, and other related sicknesses affecting women folks in the country.

Senator Tinubu urged them to throw their weight behind her advocacy to tackle pressing health issues affecting Nigerian women, including the elimination of mother-to-child transmission of HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis B, Syphilis, and Tuberculosis.

She said, “Ending female genital mutilation is also one of our key priorities. It is a harmful and outdated tradition built on myths. It does not stop promiscuity, as some believe. Instead, it destroys the lives of young girls.”  Chairman of the state Council of Obas and Olowo of Owo, Oba Gbadegesin Ogunoye, who was represented by the Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi, said they would support the First Lady initiative.

“We may not be able to offer financial help, but our prayers will never cease for the success of President Tinubu’s administration.

“By the time Asiwaju completes his first term, Nigerians will beg him to go for another.”
