There was commotion on Tuesday night at the Sango-Ota Tollgate end along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway in Ogun State when the driver of a Mercedes Benz truck lost control of the vehicle leading to multiple crashes involving 10 other vehicles.
According information made available to NoTM online, the ill-fated truck was descending towards Lagos at the slope by the former Shoprite when its brake reportedly failed and the driver lost control in the process.
The incident occurred at about 10pm, sending passengers and motorists returning to their various homes fleeing in different directions to avoid being caught in the ugly situation.
Going by the preliminary information made available to our correspondent by the first responders at the scene, the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency TRACE, the list of vehicles involved are below:
Benz Truck, Green, JJT167XH,Toyota Camry, Black, MUS745KP,Suzuki Bus, Yellow LSD647YN,Toyota Camry Black, LND862HA, Acura MDX, Green MU684KU,Lexus Jeep, Ash KSF966HF,GAC, Black KTU702EY,Bajaj Maruwa, Yellow BDS031VC,TVS Maruwa, Yellow EKY870GG,Mitsubishi, Black JBY529AA and Ford Transit, Blue Registration number not available.
An information from the Ota Divisional Command exclusively gleaned by our correspondent described the accident as “A serious multiple road traffic accident.”
“According to an eyewitness, the Benz truck, which was travelling inward Lagos, reportedly lost control, resulting in the accident.”
Two persons, a male and a female were said to have been injured in the accident while scores escaped death.
Many of the vehicles involved have been removed from from the crash scene, and free flow traffic has been restored.
“The containerized truck involved in the accident remained at the scene pending the arrival of a crane for its removal. The Ford Transit was also trapped and would be removed after the evacuation of the containerized truck,” our correspondent gathered.
The Sango-Ota Tollgate end has witnessed so many crashes in the past, with many of them resulting in fatalities. Efforts have been made by the Ogun State Government and the traffic agencies to bring sanity to the area, however some recalcitrant commercial drivers and okada riders are still proving too difficult to obey traffic rules in this axis.
They clog the exit point while descending from Ilo-Awela down to Tollgate, making it difficult fpr free flow of traffic for those in the process of linking the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway onward to Lagos.
